our story

More than 30 years ago, a life altering car accident left me, a young newlywed, a quadriplegic. When my husband Mike and I returned to Pensacola Beach after rehab, we discovered a barrier no one had solved: wheelchairs simply couldn’t cross soft sand. Florida’s most iconic experience the beach, our happy place was suddenly out of reach. However, Mike, an engineer, refused to accept that reality, and I challenged him: “If you build them, I’ll sell them.”

So, in our Pensacola backyard, Mike designed a mobility device that could safely navigate sand, surf, and saltwater. That prototype became the first DeBug Beach Wheelchair.

Three decades later, DeBug Mobility Products has grown from a backyard project into a Florida manufacturing company with a 4,000 square foot facility and a team of eight. Our product line now includes beach walkers, baby beach joggers, and floating beach wheelchairs all handcrafted in Pensacola. Today, DeBug equipment is used at coastal destinations, cruise lines, resorts, and parks across the United States and Internationally.

A Florida Born Innovation That Has Transformed Global Beach Access Brief Description: DeBug Mobility Products is Florida’s first and only beach wheelchair manufacturer, with more than 30 years of continuous innovation. Our products were invented and tested on Florida beaches. What started as a personal solution born in Pensacola has become a global accessibility standard, yet every product is still built right here in Pensacola.

Ours is a true Florida success story, one that blends entrepreneurship, perseverance, and determination. As Florida continues to be a leader in accessible tourism,
DeBug Mobility Products is proud to help provide access to the state’s most treasured natural asset, its beaches.

Because everyone should be able to feel the sun, touch the shoreline, and enjoy their happy place.
